New Steps
DANCE COMPANY
A student-based dance company with student lead choreography, and the opportunity to learn and grow as a dancer in a pre-professional setting.
For dancers ages 10-18 with current dance training. Pre-requisites required. Dancers do not have to be currently enrolled at New Steps.
The 2022-2023 New Steps Dance Company season will run from September 17 – March 4 with mandatory rehearsals on Saturdays, with an end of the season performance on Saturday, March 4 at the Irish American Home. There are no rehearsals on November 26, December 24, December 31, or February 18.
The opportunity to participate in New Steps Dance Company is open to all dancers. Dancers do not have to be currently enrolled at New Steps. However, all dancers must currently be enrolled in all 3 classes consisting of; ballet, jazz & modern/lyrical class. Dancers from other dance studios are able to participate in this unique opportunity to choreograph with other young aspiring dancers & choreographers.
The total cost is $550 which includes costume cost. Shoes & Tights and simple extra items will be required for dancers to purchase on their own for the performance.
Saturday rehearsals will run from 11:15am-2:00pm. Dancers do not have to choreograph pieces if they do not want to. Dancers who wish to choreograph will submit a proposal of their idea that details what they want their piece to be about. Which will include; number of dancers desired, style of dance, concept, etc. Decisions on choreography approvals will be based on a variety of factors including; seniority, age & experience. Longer rehearsals will be added after the new year in preparation for the performance.
Rehearsals will not only consist of learning choreography from peers but will also include workshops from Tracy Lombardo, Heather Budinsack & Janelle Bradway along with others. Miss Lauren Crooks will be the director of New Steps Dance Company and will lead all Saturday Rehearsals.
